Prof. Ying's major research is interdisciplinary in nature, including green chemistry and energy, synthesis biosystems, nanomedicine, biodevices and diagnostics. She has been recognized with a number of research rewards internationally. Prof. Ying is the Editor-in-Chief of Nano Today, which has an impact factor of 18.432. She also serves on the editorial board of high impact journals  and actives in International Advisory Board of University of Queensland Nanomaterials Centre (Australia), Leibniz-Institut fur Festkorper- und Werkstoffforschung Dresden (Germany), and National Research Council Steacie Institute for Molecular Sciences (Canada).
