The key research interest of Prof. Nicolas Voelcker lies in biomaterial, porous materials, surface engineering, biosensors, biointerfaces, high-throughput screening, tissue engineering and cell therapy. He actively involves in high impact journals publication and review. He has received fellowship from the German Research Foundation (GRF), the CSIRO, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and is a recipient of the Tall Poppy Science Award.

Professor Dr Harith's areas of expertise are Fibre Optics And Waveguides (Plannar Lightwave Circuit), Quantum Electronics And Lasers (Laser Technology) and Fibre Optics " Waveguides (Fibre Optic Technology). He publishes and reviews journals that recognized by the International Citation Index and has obtained 10 patents jointly with Telekom Malaysia. Prof Dr Harith Ahmad has been appointed as Distinguished Professor (Prof Ulung) for 2014 and received the Merdeka Award for 2010. He was awarded the title for his contributions in physics, particularly in the field of photonics, the science of creating, manipulating and transmitting light particles.

He actively publishes research outcomes in high impact journals. His research has been awarded second prize in Breakthrough of the Year 2011 ( Journal Science = Impact Factor: 31.47) and Anugerah Akademik Negara 2012.
